Where did the Baroque movement originate? The term Baroque stems from the Italian word barocco, which means bizarre. The term was first used in the 1860s to describe the highly ornamented architecture, visual art, and musical style of 17th and 18th century. In the mid-19th century religious and public buildings in Austria, Germany and Italy symbolized the Baroque, ornate style. Today, the term Baroque refers to the music composed between 1600 and 1750.
